Working in collaboration with institutions from Germany and the United States, the Institute for HIV Research is conducting clinical trials at several sites all over Germany. These studies are pivotal to opening additional avenues of vaccine research and HIV treatment. The objectives of these trials range from researching the detailed physiological changes that occur during acute infection, gauging the public’s knowledge of pre-exposure prophylaxis and its availability, and measuring the effect that HIV infection has on other sexually transmitted infections such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis.
